The BJP on Thursday accused the then Rajiv Gandhi government of complicity in the ‘safe passage’ given to former Union Carbide CEO Warren Anderson. “The unfortunate and frustrating judgment regarding Bhopal is the result of Congress complicity with the accused Warren Anderson. He was
allowed to flee the country by the government machinery,” said BJP spokesperson Prakash Javdekar.

“This could not have happened without the late Rajiv Gandhi’s complicity and then M.P. CM Arjun Singh’s direct involvement. They helped the accused. He never returned to India and the case became weak.

The Congress must apologise to the nation for this lapse.” Javdekar demanded the government reveal which official accompanied Anderson when he was flown from Bhopal to Delhi.
