The Supreme Court has upheld the life sentence on 13 Telugu Desam Party supporters who waylaid and killed Y S Raja Reddy, the father of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajashekar Reddy about a decade ago. "The impugned judgement cannot be said to be suffering from infirmity to warrant
interference. The appeal fails and is dismissed," a Bench of Justices Arjit Pasayat and Asok Kumar Ganguly observed in a judgement, while dismissing the appeal of the convicts, Perla Somasekhara Reddy and others.

The AP Chief Minister's father was waylaid and killed using bombs on May 23, 1998 at Vemula village of Pulivendla constituency in Cuddapah district. The murder was allegedly the result of a factional feud in the district.

Deceased Raja Reddy himself was accused in the murder of certain persons related to him.
The sessions court had acquitted the killers of Raja Reddy but the Andhra Pradesh High Court reversed the acquittal and imposed life sentence upon which the convicts had filed the appeal in the apex court.

But the apex court in appreciation of evidence on record produced by the prosecution found that there was no reason to interfere with the findings and reasonings recorded by the high court.
