In an important breakthrough, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested an accused who is alleged to have planted a bomb on the Samjhauta Express that runs between Delhi and Attari on the India-Pakistan border in Punjab.

Two blasts on the train in February 2007 killed
68 people, most of who were travelling to Pakistan.

“Kamal Chauhan was picked up from a village near Deepalpur town close to Indore in Madhya Pradesh. He was arrested after being questioned in Delhi,” said a senior agency official.

Chauhan’s arrest will help the NIA corroborate Swami Aseemanand’s confessional statement before a magistrate in which he had claimed that Hindu extremists were behind the Samjhauta blast and September 2006 Malegaon bombing.
