Bob Dylan will give a free concert for peace in Spain's Basque region, where the population is hoping for peace after the armed separatist group ETA announced a permanent ceasefire in March, reports said Friday.
The concert will be staged by the organisers of the San Sebastian jazz
festival, in collaboration with local authorities and private sponsors in San Sebastian on July 11.
The US singer, who wrote the famous 1960s-era peace song Blowin in the Wind, has expressed a wish that no political messages should be expressed during the concert, which would also involve other artistes.
Organisers, nevertheless, linked the concert to "the new times in the Basque region" in reference to hopes of ending ETA's violent campaign, which has claimed more than 800 lives over nearly four decades.
ETA has not staged fatal attacks for nearly three years. The Spanish government is hoping to launch peace talks in June.
