A Pakistan court on Thursday directed authorities to advertise its order summoning former President Pervez Musharraf in newspapers in London, where he has been based since he left the country in mid-April.
A division bench of the Sindh High Court led by Chief Justice Sarmad Jalal Usmani
had summoned Musharraf in connection with a petition seeking his trial on the charge of treason for imposing emergency in November 2007.
However, Musharraf failed to appear before the court or send his counsel to represent him.
The court issued a directive for its order to be publicised in the newspapers of London after it was informed that the summons could not be served on Musharraf as he is currently outside Pakistan.
In his petition against Musharraf, Maulvi Iqbal Haider of the Awami Himayat Tehrik alleged that the former military ruler had violated the constitution by taking illegal steps such as the imposition of emergency.
Haider asked the court to direct authorities to register a case of treason against Musharraf.
A slew of legal case and police complaints have been registered against Musharraf across Pakistan after the Supreme Court declared in July that the emergency imposed by him was illegal and unconstitutional.
Musharraf has ignored several summons issued by different courts, including the Supreme Court.
