Five small explosions hit Lahore late Friday causing no casualties, hours after twin suicide attacks killed up to 45 people in the Pakistani cultural capital, police said.
"Five low-intensity blasts hit the Allamma Iqbal Town area of Lahore but caused no casualties," senior police
official Nasir Rizvi told AFP.
"The blasts occurred one after other in open areas and outside some houses breaking the window glass," he added.
After the first blast Rizvi told reporters it was caused by a firecracker which had been buried under a heap of mud.
"We have found this twine which is used in making firecrackers and have cleared the area," Rizvi said.
Panicked residents were fleeing while shopkeepers were closing up their stores, an AFP reporter in the area said.
Live television footage showed a small car damaged in one of the blasts.
Earlier on Friday two suicide attacks seconds apart targeted the Pakistani military in Lahore.
The bombers walked up to army vehicles in the crowded R A Bazaar area of the city, blowing themselves up as people sat down to eat before the main Muslim weekly prayers were to begin, a senior official said.
Lahore, a city of eight million near Pakistan's border with India, has been increasingly subject to Taliban and Al-Qaeda-linked attacks in a nationwide bombing campaign that has killed more than 3,000 people in three years.
A senior security official put the death toll from the twin bombings at 45 and said six army personnel were among the dead.
