Pakistan on Wednesday sought greater "clarity and coordination" from the US to ensure President Barack Obama's new Af-Pak policy, involving sending thousands of more American troops to Afghanistan, does not have an adverse fallout over it. "There is certainly a need for clarity and
coordination on all aspects of the implementation of this strategy," Foreign Office said in a statement issued here.

Pakistan said it would closely engage with the US in understanding the full import of its new strategy on Afghanistan and to ensure that there would be no adverse fallout on Pakistan, according to APP.

It said Pakistan and the US need to closely coordinate their efforts to achieve shared objectives.

"We welcome President Obama's reaffirmation of partnership between the two countries built on a foundation of mutual interest, mutual respect and mutual trust and also the United States' strong support for Pakistan's security and prosperity," it said.

Obama today announced that US will send 30,000 more troops to Afghanistan, setting an 18-month roadmap for beginning a withdrawal.

Obama said the Taliban and al Qaeda, defeated by the US-led international forces in Afghanistan, have established a safe haven in Pakistan, stressing on a strategy that works "on both sides of the border".
