Khurshid downplays Bharat Ratna to Anna
Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Sunday accused Team Anna of not acknowledging the support of his organisation when the anti-corruption activists were under attack from the Congress.
“RSS volunteers supported Anna Hazare’s movement. But Anna and other civil society
members did not acknowledge the fact when the Congress attacked them for soliciting RSS support on the corruption issue,” he said.
The RSS at its meeting in March last year had adopted a resolution allowing its volunteers to support or participate in any movement against corruption, he said.
On terrorism, Bhagwat said it was the biggest threat to national security and the government had failed to tackle the problem.
“Terrorism begets terrorism. At the administrative level, the government should tackle terrorism by taking stern action and pre-empt it by culling intelligence inputs. It should simultaneously initiate measures to change the mentality of those becoming fodder at the hands of terrorist outfits,” he said.
Taking strong exception to the use of the term ‘saffron terror’, Bhagwat said terrorism and Hindus could never be linked. “These are sinister conspiracies by national and international agencies to defame Hindus,” he said.
He also opposed the use of the term ‘Islamic terrorism’. “Why should innocent Muslims be chastised for an act of terror by a handful of people,” he asked.
“The RSS does not believe in a ‘hate approach’ towards any community,” he added.
