Nikhil Dwivedi and Amrita Rao in My Name Is Anthony Gonsalves.
My Name is Anthony Gonsalves
Cast
: Nikhil Dwivedi, Amrita Rao
Direction: E Niwas
Rating: **

Okay, so this misleadingly titled My Name is Anthony Gonsalves, is essentially about the good, the bard
and the boring.

The good are many: a bar waiter who wants to be a superstar even though they lead a horrible life (see Halla Bol), an assistant director (Amrita Rao) who’s sweeter than sheera, a priest-cum-karate-expert (Mithun Chakraborty) who’s nice-nice, and a cop who searches for criminals as if they were naughty mice. So far, so much spice.

The bard: that’s Shakespeare! Omkara, omkara, omkara, here the waiter recites his Romans and countrymen speech at an audition and yo, a star is born. Yawn. There’s also Anil Kapoor bringing up the Stanislavski school of acting-shacting. Now only if they hadn’t called him Stanislavaaski.

The boring: the tempo, the music and E Niwas’ direction which is neither commercial nor twisted. It lacks fireworks (not the Moranis).

Of the cast, Pawan Malhotra, as a benevolent ganglord, is first-rate. Debutant Dwivedi is just about tolerable like the rest of this My Name is Etc Etczz zzz zzz.
