Consumer electronics giant Sony sees India as a major market, and to pursue rapid growth here it will hive off its India operations into a new geographical division. At present, the Indian market is part of Sony’s Asia-Pacific region headquartered in Singapore.
“From April 1 we will
report directly to the company’s global headquarters at Tokyo,” said Masaru Tamagawa, managing director of Sony India.
“At present, India contributes a mere 5 per cent to the global revenues of Sony. We wish to increase India’s contribution in the future,” said Tamagawa.
Sony India had earlier said that it is eyeing a revenue collection of 10 per cent from its India operations by 2013.
The company will target mainly the premium segment.
