Hirose beats Sindhu in quarterfinals

India's campaign at the Badminton Asia Championships came to an end after PV Sindhu lost her women's singles quarterfinal match against Eriko Hirose of Japan here on Friday.

The unseeded Indian gave a tough challenge to her seventh seeded Japanese opponent before going down 19-21 21-16 11-21 in a battle that lasted exactly an hour.

Sindhu, who had beaten former World No.1 Shixian Wang in a third round match on Thursday, seemed to be in top form in the first two games before going down tamely in the third game.

Sachin's wax statue to be unveiled
Sydney: Sachin Tendulkar's wax statue will be unveiled at his favourite Sydney Cricket Ground on Saturday before being displayed at a museum in the city ahead of his 40th birthday on April 24.

Tendulkar's waxwork will be first unveiled at the SCG where he had played some memorable innings, courtesy Madame Tussauds in Sydney, media reports said.

ONGC thrash RCA to enter semis
New Delhi: Tanmay Srivastava's 84, Sumit Narwal's 83* and Suhail Sharma's 5/34 helped ONGC beat Rajasthan Cricket Association by 183 runs in Om Nath Sood Cricket. In DDCA league, Puneet Bisht's 104* helped Delhi Audit beat I&B Ministry by 273 runs while Samarth Singh's 83 powered Sonnet and Rajesh Sharma's 133 helped Golden Hawks to win.

Sumit Nagal ousted, Snehadevi in final
New Delhi: Fifth-seeded Sumit Nagal went down 5-7, 3-6 to Korean Duck Hee Lee in the semifinals of the Asian closed junior tennis championships, underway at the DLTA Complex, on Friday.

However, the 15-year-old made up for the disappointment by lifting the doubles crown with Wishya Trongcharoenchaikul. The Indo-Thai pair overcame the challenge posed by Japan's Ken Onishi and Takashi Saito 4-6, 7-6 (2), 10-2.

Unseeded Snehadevi Reddy upset second-seeded Katherine IP of Hong Kong 6-3, 6-2 in the semifinals. She will play fifth-seeded Asaiya Diar of Kazakhstan in the final.
