Army intensifies combing operation in Kupwara

Combing operation has been intensified by the security forces in the higher reaches of Shamsabari area in Harfada forest where seventeen militants and eight Army personnel, including a Major, were killed in the encounter which began on March 20. No fresh firing has been reported from
militants today in frontier district of Kupwara where the gunbattle continued for the past five days, defence sources said. Combing operation in the higher reaches of Shamsabari range was continuing and will continue for another few days, they added.

The five-day long operation in Kupwara ended last evening after security forces gunned down 17 militants in the gunbattle. Eight soldiers, including a Major, were also killed in the operation taking the total death toll to 25.

Intermittent gunbattles took place at Drangyari and Hafrada forests since March 20 which ended on Tuesday.
