The Jammu and Kashmir government on Monday claimed the preliminary postmortem report of National Conference worker Syed Mohammad Yusuf showed he had died of cardiac arrest. The 61-year-old had died on September 30 allegedly in police custody while he was being questioned in connection
with a cheating case.  State home secretary BR Sharma told  reporters that doctors from the government medical college, who conducted the autopsy, certified that no external injuries were found on the body of the deceased, ruling our judicial torture.

“X-rays of the body show no abnormality and the time of the death in the report has been shown as less than 12 hours prior to the completion of the postmortem and handing over of the body at 7.20 pm on September 30,” he said.  The official said Yusuf complained of abdominal pain after he was taken into custody.  HTC
