Two foreign terrorists were among three persons killed and two securitymen injured in Jammu and Kashmir where security forces averted a major tragedy by detecting an IED on Amarnath route and busted a terrorist hideout. A five kg IED, planted by terrorists near the main gate of the Degree
College, Anantnag, on the busy Khannabal-Pahalgam road being used by pilgrims for Amarnath, was detected by police on Saturday, Additional Superintendent of Police, Anantnag, Javeed Ahmed Matto told said.

He said the IED, kept in a tiffin box, was later defused before it could cause any loss of life.

Matto said the preliminary investigations revealed that it was the handiwork of the pro-Pakistan Hizbul Mujahideen outfit.

He said the road is being used by the pilgrims bound for Amarnath. A case has been registered in police station Anantnag.

Amarnath yatra could not commence on Saturday due to bad weather and was deferred till July 2.

Two foreign terrorists were killed in a gunbattle with security forces at Guldachan-Sarkuli village of Kalaroos in border district of Kupwara in the day, Senior Superintendent of Police, Kupwara, Vijay Kumar said.

Based on specific information about the presence of the terrorists, police and troops of 41 Rashtriya Rifles cordoned off Guldachan-Sarkuli village of Kalaroos this morning, he said.

The search operation turned into encounter and two foreign terrorists were killed, Kumar said adding, however, there was no collateral damage in the encounter.

He said two AK rifles, eight magazines, 145 rounds and two hand grenades were recovered from them.
