In a school girl look, Katrina Kaif is making them hip once again in her upcoming movie Ajab Prem ki Ghazab Kahani. Deepika Padukone has been seen wearing them at some brand
promotions. Even in her pixie haircut, pop diva Victoria Beckham is flaunting them as a trendy hair accessory.

Headbands, once a important style accessory, are now back in vogue. The trend was only reinforced by the number of designers who showcased hair accessories at the just concluded Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week. Then designer Anna Sui displayed interesting bandanas with flower tassels in her 2010 collection at this year’s Paris Fashion Week.

Laser-cut flowers in cotton were made into multi-purpose headbands for Pallavi Mohan’s show at WIFW. Mohan says, “I made those flower bands with herringbone cotton tapes which can be used as belts or wrist bands. Such accessories definitely add a playfulness to one’s overall look.” Tarun Tahiliani, known for high-maintenance glamour, added a hint of sophistication by getting his models to wear pretty pink and white flowers in hair buns.

Designer Sanchita informs, “Flowers represent femininity and espouse beauty. In my show, flowers adorned high-twisted buns to make it modern and timeless. Tiny handcrafted buds and petals were manipulated to form cascading clusters that were mounted on delicate combs.”

According to Sanchita, bejeweled hair accessories have always been popular. “A hair accessory trend that is gaining popularity is feathers. The Lanvin Spring Summer show used feathers to adorned the hair of the models. Hollywood actresses Mischa Barton and Drew Barrymoore have both worn feathers in the past,” she adds.

Designer Sonal Dubal’s models flaunted printed georgette bands with flower details on them. He says, “I remember late Isabella Blow, former director of Tatler, as the trendsetter for wearing some very chic hats.”
