A magnitude 6.7 earthquake hit the Solomon Islands in the Pacific Ocean on Thursday night. However, there were no casualties or significant damage reported from the quake, with its epicentre located only 75 km west-south-west of the Pacific nation's capital of Honiara, said the
Australian Broadcasting Corporation on Friday quoting police and the Solomon Islands National Disaster Management Office in Honiara.

But they added they were still to hear from isolated villages nearer the quake's epicentre.

The US Geological Survey reported that the quake struck at a depth of just 1.8 km below the sea.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre in Hawaii, the US, did not issue a tsunami warning following the quake.
