A 48-year-old principal of a local school allegedly raped his 14-year-old student inside the school premises on Friday.
The accused, Ramesh Sain, was arrested after the girl’s family registered a complaint against him. Sain has been sent to judicial custody for 15 days.
DSP Anil Gothwal said the girl told her mother about the rape although Sain had threatened to kill her if she disclosed it to anyone.
As news spread, local residents stormed the school building, dragged the principal out and thrashed him. Later, they handed him over to Ramganj police station.
The mob also damaged two vehicles and pelted stones at the school building. They dispersed only after the police assured them of action.
The police have also arrested the owner of the school building and his son for allegedly beating up family members of the victim, who were trying to enter the building.
District Education Officer (Secondary) B S Rawat said a committee would be constituted to probe the incident.
