Deputy commissioner Abhinav Trikha said here on Saturday that 1,73,151 metric tonnes of paddy had been procured from 93 mandis in the district till date, of which only 25,700 metric tonne had been purchased by the government procurement agencies, while the rest was procured by private sheller owners.

Addressing district officers at a meeting held to review the ongoing paddy procurement process, he directed them to ensure early procurement and lifting of paddy which had arrived at various mandis in the district.

He told the officers that the farmers should not face any problem in selling their produce at the mandis, and asked them to ensure that the farmers were not exploited economically at any stage during the procurement process.

Allotting specific mandis to various officers, the DC instructed them to stay in those areas for at least three hours a day to ensure smooth procurement, and look into the problems of the farmers and solve them on the spot.

He also directed them to ensure that the arhtiyas (commission agents) and labourers do not face any problems in the procurement process.

Countryside no better: Sultanwind dotted with garbage heaps

It's not only the urban areas in the holy city that are marred with pathetic civic conditions, the historic village of Sultanwind on its outskirts too is a perfect picture of mess and government apathy.
