Newly appointed PPCC president and Gurdaspur MP Partap Singh Bajwa suffered a setback on Monday when around 250 families from four villages of Qadian assembly segment owing allegiance to the Congress, including Allowal, Kang, Dadwan and Bandianwali, joined the SAD in the presence of former Punjab
minister and senior SAD leader Sewa Singh Sekhwan.

The Qadian assembly seat is represented by the PPCC chief's wife, Charanjit Kaur Bajwa.

Welcoming the families to the party fold, Sekhwan said this was the first gift to Bajwa from the people of Qadian on his appointment as the state Congress chief. He said the people of Punjab were fed up with the "anti-people" policies of the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre and would vote the NDA to power in the general elections.

Sekhwan claimed that more Congress families would be joining the SAD in the near future.
