The Amritsar police have got the custody of ASI murder accused Ranjit Singh Rana, who has been sent in police remand till December 17.
ADGP (law and order) Dinkar Gupta reached Amritsar on Tuesday to probe the case, the circumstances leading to the murder and the role of policemen who
allegedly did not take necessary action when the assailants fired at ASI Ravinder Pal Singh.

Sources said that the ADGP was personally looking into the matter and some eyewitnesses and shopkeepers of the area were also being questioned.

Deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal has asked Amritsar DCP Kaustubh Sharma to identify and prepare a list of the cops who ran away from the spot when the incident took place. The process has been initiated.

Meanwhile, Rana, an Akali leader, who was till now in the custody of the Tarn Taran police, was brought to Amritsar on Tuesday. He was produced in a local court, which sent him in police custody till December 17.

Talking to HT, ADCP (crime) Harjit Brar said, "Rana has been discharged from hospital and is now in our custody. We will question him in detail. His call details will also be examined."
