Terming the people living in the border brave, Badal said that they deserved to be accorded the status of freedom fighters. He said that these people remained backward, as neither the government nor private companies were ready to set up industry or business or its proximity to the border with Pakistan.

Badal had visited Dera Baba Nanak to meet the flood-hit people and to witness the loss caused to the crops by floods.

Badal said that this was the first time after the commissioning of the Ranjit Sagar Dam that so much water had rushed in the parts of Punjab, especially the border districts.

He promised that he would get arrangements made to resolve the problem. He told that he had ordered all the DC's of Punjab to get special 'girdawari' of the loss of crops caused by flood waters conducted, so that the compensation could be released to the farmers at the earliest.

Commenting on the demand of PPCC president Partap Singh Bajwa for a compensation of Rs. 25,000 per acre for damaged crops, Badal said that he would in person visit Bajwa's residence to thank him if he manages to get the same for the flood affected farmers. Badal regretted that the Central government gave a meagre sum as compensation against damaged crops.

Slamming Centre for paying only Rs.3,000 per acre as compensation for damaged crops, he said that Punjab government contributed another Rs. 2,000 to the amount to raise it to Rs. 5,000 per acre.
Badal also said that the Central government gave a compensation of Rs. 3,500 per acre to the farmers whose lands fell across the border fencing for their inability to cultivate their lands properly.

He also said that the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre had proved a total failure on all fronts. He said that the financial condition of the country was deteriorating day by day under the 'misrule' of the UPA as rupee was touching new low every day as compared to the Dollar.

Badal said that because of wrong policies of the UPA government, the country was facing external as well as internal security threats. He said that the country was facing acute problems of unemployment and poverty and that that the country was marching towards backwardness.
