Keeping in mind the health of residents of her constituency, chief parliamentary secretary (CPS) Navjot Kaur Sidhu on Saturday launched a 'Vibrant Amritsar' project at the Verka Health Centre.
Addressing reporters during the launch, Sidhu said, "Under the project, we are eyeing
starting a de-addiction campaign for locals. First, they will be identified and later a free-of-cost treatment for 10 days will be given. Later, a person will be charged Rs. 50 to 60 a day."
The focus of de-addiction will be through Art of Living; also, there will be help from the Punjab and the union governments. Besides, health cards will be made for the residents wherein all their medical tests, including anaemia, hypertension, hepatitis-B, hepatitis-C, HIV and diabetes, will be done at government hospitals under the National Programme For Health Care of
Elderly to address the menace of non-communicable diseases, like cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and stroke, she added.
The CPS said a house-to-house survey would also be carried out to know about the cancer patients in the area.
Sidhu, who had met union health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad last month, claimed that the union minister had assured all help.
Giving details, the CPS claimed that under the project, efforts were made for the socio-economic uplift of residents and also ensuring cleanliness in the area.
