After remaining stranded at the Attari border for more than 20 days, Pakistani trucks loaded with sand were finally cleared by the Indian authorities.
Since there was shortage of sand in Punjab, Indian traders had started importing sand from Pakistan. But as soon as the trucks
carrying sand from Pakistan entered India, the supplies were not cleared for lifting owing to some objections raised by the Indian customs authorities.

After giving the clearance, the customs department finally allowed the lifting of sand by Indian traders a couple of days ago.

Talking to HT, an official of the customs department said, "Since sand had come from Pakistan for the first time, there were some formalities to be followed. Now sand has become an importable item and will be cleared as soon as it comes."

With this clearance, sand imports from Pakistan are likely to pick up pace in coming days.
