DC announces property tax rates for rural areas

Maintaining that the property tax to be implemented zone-wise from April 1 will not burden residents financially, Amritsar deputy commissioner Rajat Aggarwal on Thursday announced property tax rates for assets in the rural areas.

“Instead of putting burden on public, the property tax will help check tax evasion by bringing those who evade tax under the ambit of taxation,” he said during a meeting with officials concerned of the municipal councils and president, market committee.

The DC urged the public to submit their objections to the municipal council concerned by March 30. He directed the officials of the municipal councils to put up the list of property tax rates outside their offices.

Announcing the rates for property tax for various municipal councils, Aggarwal said Rs. 1.45 lakh per marla has been determined for A-Zone of Majitha municipal council, which has been divided into four zones. “Rs 1.4 lakh per marla will be the rate for B-Zone, Rs. 85,000 per marla for C-Zone and Rs. 80,000 per marla for D-Zone of the Majitha municipal council.”

He added that Rs. 2.9 lakh per marla has been determined property tax rate for A-Zone of Rayya, which has been divided into seven zones. “Rs 2.8 lakh per marla has been determined as the property tax rate for B-Zone, Rs. 1.95 lakh per marla for C-Zone, Rs. 1.9 lakh per marla for D-Zone, Rs. 1.85 lakh per marla for E-Zone, Rs. 1.8 lakh per marla for F-Zone and Rs. 1.75 lakh per marla for G-Zone of the Rayya municipal council,” he said.

The DC further said Rajasansi has been divided into four zones. “Property tax of Rs. 1.15 lakh per marla has been determined for A-Zone of Rajasansi, Rs. 1.1 lakh per marla for B-Zone, Rs. 50,000 per marla for C-Zone and Rs. 45,000 per marla has been set aside for D-Zone of Rajasansi,” he maintained.

Aggarwal said as far as the six zones of Jandiala Guru are concerned, Rs. 1.75 lakh per marla has been determined as the property tax for A-Zone, Rs. 1.7 lakh per marla for B-Zone, Rs. 90,000 per marla for C-Zone, Rs. 85,000 per marla for D-Zone and Rs. 75,000 per marla has been determined as the property tax for F-Zone.

“The Ramdas municipal council has been divided into four zones. Rs. 70,000 per marla has been determined as the property tax rate for A-Zone, Rs. 65,000 per marla for B-Zone, Rs. 35,000 per marla for C-Zone and Rs. 30,000 per marla for D-Zone,” he said.

About the rates for the five zones of the Ajnala municipal council, Aggarwal said Rs. 2.35 lakh per marla has been laid down as the property tax rate for A-Zone, Rs. 1.3 lakh per marla for B-Zone, Rs. 65,000 per marla for C-Zone, Rs. 55,000 per marla for D-Zone and Rs. 50,000 per marla has been determined as the property tax rate for E-Zone.
