Syndicate of Guru Nanak Dev University held a meeting here on Saturday and approved the increase in seats in different courses in affiliated colleges, special re-appear chance under semester system (except credit-based evaluation system) and start of education department on the university campus.
Vice chancellor Prof Ajaib Singh Brar presided over the meeting while registrar Dr Inderjit Singh presented the meeting agenda.
Prof Brar said that it was decided to provide special reappear chance to students who had appeared in their final semester examinations till May 11 and who had eaelier availed of all chances to resit in undergraduate and postgraduate classes' exams.
"They can now avail the special chance by paying a penalty fee of Rs. 20,000 per paper along with other fees. These students would appear in examination under the current syllabus. However, this provision is not applicable to the credit-based evaluation and annual examination systems," he said.
The V-C further said that the number of seats in undergraduate and postgraduate courses in affiliated colleges had been increased from one unit of 30 seats to one unit of 60 seats in some courses.
He also added that a new education department would be made functional at the GNDU from this academic session, for which two teachers have already been appointed.
"As per the guidelines of union ministry of human resource development, the university would offer special provisions in admissions to Kashmiri migrant students in different courses run by it," he added.
The syndicate also approved an increase in the honorarium of teachers associated with evaluation from Rs. 15 to 18 per answersheet, though no travelling allowance would be paid to them.
The syndicate also accorded approval to PhD theses submitted under different faculties.
