The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has asked the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to lift the ban on the release of the Punjabi film, 'Sadda Haq'.
SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar has sent a written communique to Dipesh Mehta, member of the CBFC. Copies of
the communique were released to the media here on Tuesday.
Makkar wrote to CBFC after receiving a report from the 3-member panel that watched the film here on Monday. Makkar had setup the panel after being approached by Kuljinder Sidhu, the producer, writer and actor of the feature film, with a submission that the film had been refused certification.
"The committee, after watching the movie, is of the unanimous considered opinion that refusal of certification by the CBFC to 'Sadda Haq' defies logic," Makkar stated in the letter.
In the letter Makkar reminded the CBFC that the Constitution provided the right of expression. He stated in the letter that the film was in no manner a threat to the unity and integrity of the country. The film warns against the re-occurrence of terrorism instead, the letter stated.
"We request you that after deleting portions where the language used was vulgar, abusive or provocative, the decision regarding the film may kindly be reviewed and exhibition of the film be allowed," the letter read.
