Panic prevails at Old Mall Mandi after a man living at Gurdwara Akalgarh Sahib situated in the locality died allegedly of gastroenteritis on Monday evening.
Talking to reporters, gurdwara secretary Mangal Singh said Gurcharan Singh, who was living in the gurdwara premises, started
vomiting on Sunday night and his health deteriorated leading to his death.

Showing the condition of the locality, Mangal Singh said that the sewerage system of their locality was not functioning for the last many days, resulting in the sewage getting mixed with the potable water.

He said he, along with locals, had made many complaints to the municipal council authorities, but their repeated requests had not been heeded.

He warned that if the council authorities did not take any immediate action for the proper cleanliness of the locality, they would organise a dharna against the civic authorities.

Due to the alleged negligence of the local civic authorities, 42 people of Gandhi Camp in Batala had died of gastro in October last year.
