A two-day national seminar on comparative study of languages and literature concluded here on Monday. The Guru Nanak Dev University department of Sanskrit, Pali and Prakrit had organised the event.

Linguist Ved Kumari Ghai said in her presidential address during the valedictory session that prominent world languages had a common source, and Sanskrit, being among the oldest, was the source of maximum inter-continental and modern Indian languages and dialects.

Seminar director Dalbir Singh Chahal spoke on etymology (word origins) and Lekh Ram Sharma about the link between Sanskrit and Western and Pahari languages. More than 80 scholars presented their papers.
