Taking quick action a day after the brutal murder of an assistant sub inspector (ASI), the Punjab police arrested the Akali Dal general secretary Ranjit Singh Rana early this morning.

The Police also recovered the SUV in which the accused fled away after murdering the cop. Three
weapons have also been seized from his possession.

The Akali leader was nabbed from village Rajoke of Tarn Taran district.

After getting a tip off, the police surrounded the entire village and nabbed Rana after he tried to run, leaving his car behind.

Confirming this Amritsar police commissioner Ram Singh said, "We arrested Ranjit Singh Rana and one more person in wee hours of the day. Three weapons including 12 bore gun, .315 bore rifles and a pistol were recovered from his possession."

The commissioner also claimed that Rana fired on police party when the party tried to arrest him.

The Akali leader on Wednesday had gunned down a uniformed ASI after he had confronted him for repeatedly teasing his daughter.

The cop was murdered on the main road, metres away from the Chheharta police station. Despite alarm raised by the public, the officials in the police station did not reach on time resulting in the death of the ASI.
