Former minister and senior BJP leader Laxmi Kanta Chawla said on Tuesday that the recent incidents of violence, like the murder of an ASI by a "political criminal", were not a healthy sign for the state.
"When men in uniform are not safe in the state, how can a commoner feel safe?"
she said in a statement issued here.
Besides the murder of the ASI, she referred to the murder of a youth allegedly by an Akali sarpanch near Ajnala and the manhandling of a home guard jawan by an Akali activist in Gurdaspur.
"All these incidents are enough to prove that the state is in the grip of criminals who enjoy political clout," she claimed.
"After the ASI's murder, the killing of a youth near Ajnala by an Akali sarpanch was yet another unfortunate incident involving an office-bearer of a political party," she added.
