For swine flu, a villager (36) from Bhagowal in the Qila Lal Singh police jurisdiction near here tested positive on Wednesday.   Sukhjinder Singh had symptoms such as soar throat, running nose, and high fever; and from a local hospital on February 19, he was transferred to
Amritsar when he did not respond to treatment. Doctors sent his blood sample to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh, and it tested positive for the H1N1 virus. The state health department sent the report to the district health administration.

Once swine flu was confirmed, a team of doctors reached Bhagowal to examine Sukhjinder's family and relatives. "The team collected the entire medical history of the victim during this illness period at his home and it will examine everyone who came in contact with him," said Dr Amarjeet Singh Bhatia, senior medical officer at the Bhullar Civil Hospital.

The health department will also organise a door-to-door survey in the village and give appropriate vaccination to people, if required. Three people, including two women, died of swine-flu in this district in the past one month.
