A resident of Udhanwal has lodged a police complaint against a teacher of government primary school in the village for allegedly beating up his daughter who is a student of Class 5 Complainant Jarman Singh said the accused Tarlok Singh beat up his daughter Mehakdeep Kaur black and blue with a stick over her negligence in closing the windows of a classroom on Monday.

Jarman Singh also got the girl medically examined at the Ghoman community health centre. Injury marks on different parts of the girl's body were visible in the wake of corporal punishment meted out to her by the teacher.

When contacted, district education officer (primary) Joginder Kaur maintained that no teacher could hand out physical punishment to students. She said that she had sent a two-member team to the school to inquire into the matter and added that stringent action would be initiated if the teacher was found guilty.

Meanwhile, the accused teacher Tarlok Singh denied beating up the girl, claiming that her parents were trying to defame him by leveling false charge.
