The unabated cold wave has claimed three lives in Amritsar and one in Tarn Taran.
The Amritsar police found three unidentified persons dead in the city on Sunday. They attributed the deaths to the biting cold. The bodies were found in Gate Hakima, Chheharta and the area under
the A division police station. The police said two of the victims appeared to be in their mid-30s.

The number of cold-related deaths in the city has gone up to five.

Another unidentified person was found dead in Khella village of Tarn Taran district.

The sharp drop in temperature has sent normal life out of gear in Amritsar with most residents preferring to stay indoors. Some private schools in the city have extended the winter vacation for primary classes by three-four days in view of the cold conditions. These schools were supposed to open on Monday. Government primary schools will remain closed till January 13.
