13 lakh tonnes of paddy procured, Ferozepur leads

Government procurement agencies and private millers procured 13.43 lakh tonnes of paddy in Punjab till Sunday evening. Of the total procurement, government agencies procured 11.02 lakh tonnes (82.1%) till date, whereas private traders procured 2.4 lakh tonnes (17.9%) of paddy.

Till October 13, Pungrain had procured 3.3 lakh tonnes (29.9%); Markfed, 2.4 lakh tonnes (21.7%); Punsup, 2.74 lakh tonnes (24.9%); Punjab Agro Corporation, 1.02 lakh tonnes (9.3%); and Punjab State Warehousing Corporation, 89,444 tonnes (8.1%). Central government agency Food Corporation of India (FCI) has procured 66,668 tonnes (6%).

The spokesperson added that Ferozepur district was leading with 2.8 lakh tonnes of procurement, followed by Tarn Taran district (1.8 lakh tonnes) and Muktsar (1.4 lakh tonnes).
