The celebrations of 100 years of Punjabi theatre began on a serious note, with a street play on female foeticide.
"Tain Ki Dard Na Aya (Didn't you feel pity?)', written and directed by Vimal Midda, on Sunday was thoughtful start here to the 11-day Rang Manch stage festival, state's oldest
and dedicated to the centenary event. The Creative Art theatre group of Abohar was the producer.
Director Vimal Midda found a positive response from the audience. "The issue is sensitive and requires immediate attention," he said. "I see a lot of women working in the unsafe hours of night. It's possible because their parents have supported them from childhood and made them strong mentally to face any trouble. That is the way to bring up daughters."
On Monday, artistes will take street play "Wapsi (comeback)" and, with it, the message against drug abuse to different corners of the city.
