Bhagat Chunni Lal, minister for medical education and research and local government, on Friday inaugurated a sewerage water treatment plant at Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) and medical colony. The Rs. 1.25crore plant will treat nearly 7.5 lakh litre sewerage water of the college
and colony every day.

"With the functioning of this plant, the treated water of Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital and medical colony will be used for agriculture purposes," he said.

The treatment plant has been installed under the supervision of the public health department by an SAS Nagar-based private company, Hydrotech Pariavaran India. The company would maintain the plant for five years while it has three-month trial period.

At the auditorium of Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, the minister also issued appointment letters to 28 doctors, including 9 Ayurvedic doctors, 68 staff nurses and paramedical staff, in various hospitals in the state. He handed over one appointment letter symbolically, while the remaining letters were distributed by the vice-chancellor later.

The minister and others also observed a two-minute silence to express grief over demise of former prime minister Inder Kumar Gujral.

Shavinder Singh Gill, vice-chancellor of Baba Farid university, was also present at the function apart from several other officials.
