On a charge of trying to molest and kill a woman performer of an orchestra party, the police have arrested Jagmeet Singh, a man from Mai Godri Sahib village in this district. The woman told the police that he had tried to drag her out of her vehicle near Basti Nanaksar on Sunday evening,
and when she had resisted, shot at her. When the attack came, the woman was returning to Ferozpore after performing at a wedding here.

The police have also seized the weapon from which the shot was fired and registered a case under Sections 307 (murder attempt), 354 (criminal force to outrage modesty) and 341 (wrongful restraint). The weapon's licence is in the name of the suspect's father.

On Monday, the chief judicial magistrate of Faridkot remanded suspect Jagmeet Singh in police custody. The station house officer, city, Narinder Singh, declined to comment on the case, saying he was not authorised to speak with the media. Deputy superintendent of police Jaswinderpal said he could not confirm the report, as he was on leave of absence from duty.

The man who picked up the call made to senior superintendent of police Gurpreet Singh Toor, said the SSP also was not on duty. Earlier too, the SSP could not be contacted for his version on a high court case.
