The Baba Farid Group of Institutions has dedicated 2013 to women's empowerment. The announcement was made on Friday at a function organised here.
The institute has a tradition of dedicating an entire year to one cause. "As 2009 was dedicate to social welfare, 2010 to youth

"Of the many cases of crimes against women that shot into news last year, the Delhi rape was the most shocking," said Dhaliwal. "The victim suffered so much and died. Being an educational institute, we though of promoting women's empowerment for the improvement of social values, and everyone, including students and members of the staff, agreed."

To make women independent in all respects, the BFGI has promised to arrange more jobs for girl students and organise self-defence training for them.

Girls who are lone children in the family will get a tuition-fee concession of 50% for complete course. The group will introduce special career-oriented courses for women.

Sardool Singh Grewal, Paramjit Kaur Dhaliwal, Paramjit Kaur Gill, Gurmeet Singh, and Hemraj Sharma, all part of the group management and senior administration, were present during the announcement.
