The counter-intelligence police on Sunday arrested Malkit Singh, a man of Ferozepur district, and claimed to have seized 6-kilogram heroin from him.
The drug was packed in six containers. The arrest came near the district's border with Ferozepur, and the police have said that the
man's mission was to smuggle the drug to other countries through India. They claim to have gathered from him that he smuggled another big consignment of heroin though the same route on December 17 last year.

Suspect Malkit Singh used Pakistani subscriber's identity module (SIM) cards to communicate with his supplier, Shera, in Pakistan on mobile phone, a counter-intelligence (CI) official said. On Monday, the CI team arrested Gurnam Singh of Moga and Shalinder Singh of Patiala district on a charge of trying to smuggle 55 bags of poppy husk.

The seizure of drugs, fake currency and arms has become frequent in this region.
