A schoolchild (17) is charged with molesting his classmate (16) here on Friday. The police patrolling team received the complaint from the victim and her parents and moved the suspect to lockup. The police violated the Juvenile Justice Act by putting the name of the child in the first-information
report (FIR) but won praise for swift action on the complaint.
The suspect and the victim read in the same class at a government school in Lehri village of this district. The juvenile is charged with being in conflict with law.
"The police helpline numbers for reporting eve-teasing and molestation are displayed outside schools, for the safety of girls," said investigating officer Boota Singh. "The victim's parents used this service to reach us. The patrol team that received the complaint also caught the juvenile suspect."
