SSP Gurpreet Singh Toor said an ASI, a head constable and a constable were injured in the attack. The injured policemen were rushed to the civil hospital here by the Moga police, where doctors declared them to be stable.

Eyewitnesses said the attackers used wooden sticks and sharp-edged weapons. After hearing the commotion, cops came out from a local police station and saved the lives of the Ludhiana policemen.

Toor said, "Swaran Singh alias Sona of Daulewala village in Moga was being brought in a bus by the Ludhiana police to Moga for a case hearing. When the bus reached the bus stand at Moga, around 10 miscreants who came in two vehicles attacked the police party and released Sona."

The SSP said ASI Mehar Chand, head constable Sarbjit Singh and constable Mangal Singh were injured in the attack.

"Sona was allegedly involved in several criminal cases. We have constituted three police teams under the supervision of senior police officers for nabbing the culprits as well as Sona. The police have barricaded all roads and I hope we will nab the culprits soon," said Toor.

According to the police, Sona was also produced in the Moga court on Tuesday for hearing of another case. "We have rounded up some persons who met Sona at the court complex on Tuesday. A criminal case has been registered against Sona and around 10 unidentified people at the city police station," said the SSP.
