An alleged incident of firing at Doda village in Gidderbaha on the Saturday night has sparked a new political row with local Congress MLA Amrinder Singh Raja Warring alleging that the suspects in the case were relatives of Sant Singh Brar who was the Shiromani Akali Dal candidate against him in
the assembly elections.
Meanwhile, Brar has claimed that Raja is playing politics over the issue and that he and his party has nothing to do with those involved in the incident.
Six people, including Gurbhej Singh and Kala Singh, residents of Brar's native village, were booked for opening fire to take possession of two-and-a-half marlas of disputed land at Doda village.
On the complaint of Tejvinder Singh, who has possession over the disputed land, police had registered a case against all the six accused under Section 336 of the IPC and Sections 25, 27, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act at Kot Bhai police station.
However, the Congress MLA is not satisfied with the sections imposed on the accused. "A case of attempt to murder should have been registered against all the accused, but police went soft on them because both Gurbhej and Kala are relatives of Brar who is a leader of SAD," said Warring.
He added that: "Police are working under pressure of SAD and avoiding hard sections against the accused. The role of the police in the incident is just eyewash. There is no serious approach to grill the suspects as Gurbhej and Kala are nephews of Sant Singh Brar."
Brar, however, said: "The accused are neither my relatives nor I have any blood relation with them. Both even do not belong to SAD. I do not know why my name is being dragged into the whole episode. Raja is playing politics over the issue. I have confirmed from my sources that the firing incident took place in private accommodation and not at public place," said Brar.
