A national roller hockey player has allegedly been denied admission in five-year LLB (Bachelor of Law) course in Punjabi University, even as he fulfilled all eligibility conditions in his category, the family has claimed.

Partap Singh Sidhu represented Punjab at the 54th National School Games in Roller Hockey Boys Under-19 sport held in January 2009.  He has been issued a certificate by the state government for achieving 'B' grade in the sport.

However, his achievements have reportedly been overlooked, his father Devinder Singh has claimed.

"My son has been denied admission. However, another student was admitted in the same quota, who has a lower proficiency certificate in the sport. He has more marks than son, but in the sports quota, performance and gradation are paramount.

There is no transparency in admission," Devinder claimed. He also alleged that general category students had been admitted under the sports category, even as sportsmen on the waiting list were denied admission.

"This in wrong. National-level sportsmen are being discriminated against," he alleged.

Admission selection committee coordinator Nishtha Jaiswal could not be contacted as she did not respond to repeated phone calls.
