The police arrested three people for throwing acid on a woman three days back. One of those arrested is the husband of the woman, who reportedly wanted to teach his wife a lesson for filing a divorce petition.
Harinder Singh, a resident of Rashin village in Ludhiana, and husband of victim Mandeep Kaur, had hired Jagjeet Singh alias Jagga, a resident of Burj Hari village in Ludhiana, and Parvan Singh alias Pana, a resident of Rashin village, for sr 50,000 to throw acid on his wife and father-in-law.
The three have been arrested, while Deep Inder Singh, a resident of Rashin village, is still absconding.The trio was produced in the court of duty magistrate Munish Goyal and the court has remanded them to two-day police custody.
Investigation Officer (IO) Guljar Singh said that Harinder Singh's parents Paramjeet Singh and Karamjeet Kaur have also been booked in the case. A relative couple Sukhwinder Singh and Sukhmander Kaur, residents of Mandeer Kalan village in Moga, have also been booked for criminal conspiracy.
Mandeep and Harinder got themselves married in 2010, but the relationship soured after the woman discovered that her husband had lied to her about his occupation. She had then filed a divorce petition.
Harinder has told police that he wanted to disfigure Mandeep's face so that she could never marry again. "Harinder had hired Jagjeet Singh alias Jagga for Rs 50,000 and paid Rs 5,000 as advance," the IO added.
Mandeep and her father Shamsher Singh are under treatment at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) Ludhiana.
"On June 11, when the victims reached near Mehna village, Deep Inder and Pana intercepted them and Harinder and Jagjit also joined them. Harinder was carrying a jug full of acid and he poured it on Mandeep," the police said.
