The court of additional district and sessions judge Shalini Nagpal on Monday sentenced two drug peddlers to 10-year imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs. 1 lakh each on them.
Harpal Singh, alias Raju, along with drug supplier Ompal Singh were arrested from Burail in 2008 by the
narcotics control bureau (NCB) with 3.5-kg heroin.

According to NCB officials, Raju had been supplying drugs to children of bureaucrats and politicians for the past one decade. He used to procure heroin from local sources.

Raju had forged a nexus with high ranking officials of the Chandigarh Police, including deputy superintendents and inspectors. Raju, a resident of Sector 51, greased the hands of the officials every month in return for a free hand to run the business.

He was also the whistleblower, who helped the central bureau of investigation (CBI) net sub-inspector Ved Prakash for bribery.
