The Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd (PSPCL) has constituted a three-member committee to probe into the oil tanker fire at the thermal plant here on Saturday.
The committee will be headed by thermal plant chief engineer K Lal and its other members are Lehra Mohabbat thermal plant
deputy chief engineer (operation) JK Gupta and Bathinda thermal plant deputy chief engineer (mechanical maintenance) RK Jindal.
A major tragedy was averted at the thermal plant on Saturday evening after a furnace oil tank exploded leading to fire, which was brought under control by 14 fire tenders in around six hours.
PSPCL director (generation) GS Chhabra visited the thermal plant on Sunday and constituted the probe committee.
According to official sources, 200 kilo litres of oil worth Rs. 1.25 crore was destroyed in the fire. They said high pressure inside the tank led to the mishap.
Sources alleged that there was negligence on the part of the officials, as they failed to control the heat inside the tank no. 2 after the transfer of oil to another tank.
The manpower shortage at fire office on the plant's premises is also a matter of concern, said an official of the thermal plant on the condition of anonymity.
Thermal plant chief engineer K Lal said that the committee would investigate the incident and submit its report within three days to the PSPCL, so that remedial steps could be taken to prevent repeat of such incidents.
