Five youths who had allegedly kidnapped a Chandigarh resident after a scuffle were arrested by SAS Nagar police after a chase lasting an hour on Saturday evening.
The local police managed to rescue Manpreet Singh of Sector 48, Chandigarh, who was allegedly kidnapped by the five
accused students identified as Gurmeet, Akash, Sahibjit, Gurpartap and Kamal in a Bolero jeep from UT. All accused are staying in paying guest accommodations.

Police said Manpreet was moving in Sector 36 market at about 8pm when one of the accused standing there inadvertently spit on him. Manpreet had an argument with the group, following which supporters of both jumped into the fray and hit each other with beer bottles.

The rival group bundled Manpreet into a Bolero and drove away towards SAS Nagar. In the meantime, Chandigarh police informed their SAS Nagar counterparts. A local police team chased the vehicle for about an hour and finally intercepted it near Landran.

Manpreet was rescued and all five accused youths arrested. The kidnappers, who were injured in the group fight, were given first aid at a private hospital in Sohana.

"The accused had kidnapped the youth after a scuffle in Chandigarh. They were intercepted by a police team in SAS Nagar. The accused have been handed over to Chandigarh police as the youth was kidnapped from there," said SAS Nagar SSP Gurpreet Singh Bhullar.
