A six-month-old baby from SAS Nagar succumbed to swine flu in Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, here on Saturday.
The baby girl, Vrishti, was earlier taken to a private hospital from where she was referred to GMCH on Friday.
She was on ventilator since
she was admitted to the hospital. This is the second death due to swine flu in the tricity and first from SAS Nagar. According to the health department, the officials concerned in SAS Nagar have been asked to put the family of the baby girl on tamiflu.
Earlier, on January 11, Seema Sharma, 29, a resident of Manimajra, died at Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER). She was taking treatment at a private hospital and was admitted to the hospital a day before.
"The total number of cases of swine flu in the city hospitals have reached 27, including seven deaths. Among these, five patients tested positive from the city, 12 from Punjab, two from Himachal Pradesh, one from Jharkhand and one from Haryana," said UT nodal officer for national vector-borne disease programme, Dr Anil Garg.
