Paramjit Singh, in his complaint, moved before the forum and held that he had bought a generator set from the city-based agents of Veena Industries Limited in Sector 20, Chandigarh, in March 2011 against a payment of Rs. 3.35 lakh.

He said that the generator set carried a warranty of two years but the generator, after running for 11 hours, started giving problems.

He alleged that the generator set manufactured by Veena Industries Limited was manufactured using cheap and low quality parts and contended that there was an inherent manufacturing defect in the generator and it required complete replacement as it was repaired more than 25 times within the period of warranty.

Despite issuing notices, no one appeared on behalf of Veena Industries Limited and thus they were proceeded exparte.

The consumer forum presided over by PL Ahuja, held that Veena Industries Limited, did not come forward to contest the complaint and denied allegations of the complainant that the generator had an inherent manufacturing defect and required complete replacement and further the same was manufactured with cheap low quality parts.

Holding Veena Industries Limited deficient in services, the consumer forum directed them to either replace the generator sold to the complainant in March 2011 or as an alternative pay back the amount of Rs. 3.35 lakh to the complainant with 9% interest from the date of sale, till realisation of the amount.

Veena Industries Limited would also be paying Rs. 10,000 as cost of litigation.
