Members of the daily wage employees union of Panjab University held a protest outside the vice-chancellor's office on Thursday. They demanded restoration of the services of 183 temporary clerks, who lost their job, following the appointment of 307 clerks on permanent basis by the
university.

Nandan, member of the union said the university authorities have dismissed 183 temporary from service. Job was the only way of earning for them, he added.

Panjab University Registrar AK Bhandari said, “We have appointed permanent clerks and they are working on seasonal and contract basis. University has sanctioned 730 posts of clerks, and 625 posts are occupied by the temporary clerks, till the new selections of permanent clerks are finalised.”
